Why Gauntlet Mode exists

Gauntlet Mode is Sephiria’s wave-based scoring mode — repeated enemy waves, optional wave bosses, and score thresholds without the full procedural chapter climb. TEAM HORAY shipped 1.0 on 2026-07-31 with Hard Mode, Side Bag, and six-chapter campaign finales; Gauntlet is the low-risk dojo where you rehearse telegraphs before spending an evening on Qliphoth or Hard Mode modifiers.

Community boss guides consistently recommend farming Gauntlet to overgear or pattern-read before Hard Mode attempts. This page explains how Gauntlet fits Bunnyville prep, how it differs from normal runs, and how Training Grounds with Moro unlocks weapon branches from Destiny Inscription.

Accessing Gauntlet Mode

Gauntlet is a separate mode from the standard dungeon door — open it from Sephiria’s title or mode select menu (exact UI label may read Gauntlet or similar in your client language). You do not enter Gauntlet through the Mysterious Door co-op portal.

Typical Gauntlet session goals:

  • Pattern rehearsal — learn wave boss tells without route RNG.
  • Build stress test — verify inventory grid procs under sustained pressure.
  • Score chasing — optional thresholds for players who want structured challenges.
  • Hard Mode homework — practice before elemental modifiers stack on chapter bosses.

Gauntlet rewards and scoring rules can shift with hotfixes — confirm live tooltips after Patch 1.0.24 and watch Steam news for Training Grounds freeze fixes tracked toward 1.0.25.

Training Grounds and Moro weapon unlocks

Separate from Gauntlet waves, Training Grounds live in Bunnyville inside the building to the right of town (community and Steam guide consensus). Moro handles weapon branch tutorials after you purchase nodes on the Destiny Inscription tree.

Critical workflow many players miss:

  1. Spend Sapphires on a new weapon branch inscription node in Bunnyville.
  2. Talk to Moro in town — he starts the unlock quest chain.
  3. Enter the Training Grounds room and complete the weapon-specific drill for that branch.
  4. Return to normal dungeon runs — upgraded weapon evolutions now appear in Anvil offers.

Skipping Moro is a silent progression bug: inscription shows unlocked while dungeon Anvils never offer the branch. Pair this section with Weapon Types and Getting Started so your first Greatsword or Katana inscription actually surfaces in runs.

Training Doll on dungeon floors

Normal dungeon routes also spawn a Training Doll node on later starting floors (community route guides cite it after floor one). Use it to test DPS and proc uptime on your current grid before pushing the chapter boss door. Training Doll is not Gauntlet Mode, but it serves the same philosophy — measure the build before the pattern exam.

Use normal runs for Destiny Inscription and Side Bag unlocks; use Gauntlet when your grid is online but your hands are not.

  1. Clear chapter one solo with Controls fundamentals.
  2. Unlock Ken talents and first inscription nodes.
  3. Complete Moro Training Grounds for your committed weapon branch.
  4. Run Gauntlet sessions targeting bosses that wipe you — Chapter 2 bullet patterns, Askard curtains, etc.
  5. Attempt Hard Mode only after Gauntlet proves proc uptime — see Hard Mode guide.

Chapter Walkthrough Gauntlet callouts for Askard prep align with this order.

Known issues after 1.0.24

Patch 1.0.24 patch notes reference a Training Grounds freeze slated for a follow-up hotfix (1.0.25). If Moro drills hang after updating:

  • Note reproduction steps (weapon branch, UI state, co-op or solo).
  • Watch Steam news before blaming grid craft.
  • Fall back to Training Doll DPS checks and Gauntlet waves until the fix ships.

Gauntlet Mode and Training Grounds exist so Sephiria kills you on skill checks, not on surprise. Drill Moro unlocks, bash waves, then climb chapters with calm RMB fingers.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is Gauntlet Mode in Sephiria?

A wave-based scoring mode for practicing combat and boss patterns without a full six-chapter dungeon run. Community guides recommend it before Hard Mode.

Where are the Training Grounds?

In Bunnyville — enter the building on the right and speak with Moro after unlocking weapon branches on Destiny Inscription.

Why talk to Moro after inscription?

Moro completes the weapon unlock quest so new branch upgrades appear during dungeon Anvil nodes. Skipping him blocks evolutions even if inscription is purchased.

Does Gauntlet replace normal runs?

No. Normal runs fund Sapphires, Side Bag, and chapter progress. Gauntlet is practice and pattern rehearsal.

Is there a Training Grounds bug in 1.0.24?

Patch notes track a Training Grounds freeze toward hotfix 1.0.25. Update Steam client and watch official news if drills hang.
